Biography

Ashfaque Ahmed Jhatial comes from Pakistan and is employed as an assistant in the Department of Materials, Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb, Croatia. He is doing his PhD on the Durability of Alkali Activated Material Structures Under Combined Environmental Actions which is one of the topics under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions ITN research project DuRSAAM . The aim is to simulate the degradation process in AAMs under the combined effect of at least two environmental or mechanical actions. The simulations and experiments will consider the effect of shrinkage, freeze-thaw, carbonation and chloride transport separately and in a coupled manner, together with mechanical loading.

Mr. Jhatial has participated and is still participating in numerous conferences and workshops on the subject. He has obtained his Master of Civil Engineering (Research) from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Malaysia. His research topic was Investigation of Green Foamed Concrete Incorporating Palm Oil Fuel Ash and Eggshell Ash as Partial Cement Replacement. He has also obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Structural Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan.

Mr. Jhatial has served as a Lab Engineer (Lab Lecturer) at the Department of Civil Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, SZAB Campus, Khairpur Mirs', Pakistan for the past few years where his responsibilities have been to demonstrate laboratory experiments and to teach theoretical subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students of fluid mechanics, applied hydraulics, irrigation engineering, hydrology, engineering mechanics, civil engineering materials and surveying. He also has co-supervised 2 bachelor students.
