Structural Engineering

Postgraduate Specialist Study in Structural Engineering, through 12 offered courses, enables the acquisition of knowledge and competencies in the field of designing, construction, maintenance, and renovation of load-bearing structures. The courses are led by instructors from the Department of Structural Engineering, including the Chairs of Concrete and Masonry Structures, Wooden Structures, and Metal Structures.

The module consists of four compulsory subjects covering contemporary insights into structural modeling using highly specialized computer programs, as well as specific knowledge of advanced calculations of special concrete, steel, wooden, and masonry structures. Elective courses offer the opportunity for additional specialization in the areas of renovation of masonry and concrete structures, as well as structural aspects of protecting cultural heritage. Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and competencies related to the complex behavior of aluminum structures, integral prestressed structures, reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, as well as composite structures and box girders. The focus is on acquiring knowledge about the behavior of structures in extraordinary computational situations, occurring during construction (assembly phase) and building use (exceptional actions and fire computational situations).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The study is open to individuals who have completed a graduate or undergraduate program and have earned at least 60 ECTS credits in subjects related to civil engineering during their studies, including a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in the field of structural engineering. Exceptionally, a university specialist study program can be undertaken by an individual who has completed a professional graduate study, subject to passing additional exams determined by the Scientific commitee and with at least five years of work experience in the field related to the study.

STUDY PROGRAM

Students' obligations include attending postgraduate classes, taking exams, and working on their specialist thesis.

Students are required to attend the forms of teaching prescribed by the study program and implementation plan, which, along with fulfilling teaching obligations and achieving appropriate results in knowledge assessments, are prerequisites for obtaining the teacher's signature.

The study is conducted over a period of one year, divided into two semesters. During the first semester, classes are organized, while in the second semester, students work on their specialist thesis. Students are required to complete the program within a maximum of 2 years from the date of enrollment.

In the specialist study, a total of 60 ECTS credits must be accumulated, with students needing a minimum of 30 ECTS credits from exams and 30 ECTS credits from the specialist thesis.

Specialist Thesis

The student needs to propose a thesis topic upon enrollment in the second semester. Approval for the thesis requires the accumulation of at least 12 ECTS credits from exams. Once the topic is accepted, the Science Committee appoints a supervisor for the student. The approved thesis topic is valued at 4 ECTS credits.

After accumulating 30 ECTS credits from coursework, exams, and completing the thesis, the student initiates the thesis evaluation process. A student whose thesis receives a positive evaluation has the right and obligation to publicly defend their work. A successful defense is valued at 6 ECTS credits.
