The vision and goal of the Department of Materials is to promote quality and achieve its highest level in educational, scientific and professional acitivities. Special attention is devoted to fostering mutual complementarity and intertwining of the educational process and scientific research as well as professional work.

In its present form, the Department of Materials at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb was founded in 1991. Since 2006. two chairs are active at the Department, namely the Chair for Materials Technology, Head of the Chair Professor Nina Štirmer, and the Chair for Materials Research, Head of the Chair Associate Professor Ivana Banjad Pečur. The well-equipped materials testing laboratory forms the backbone of the educational process and scientific research at the Department.

As part of its teaching activities, the Department offers a variety of courses at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels while nurturing active involvment of students in scientific research. In addition to teaching activities, our faculty are also actively involved in numerous national and international research projects.
