Project summary

BLOCKRUG investigates how blockchain technology can support circular construction through reliable tracking of materials and building components throughout their life cycles. The project aims to develop a model that connects digital data management with material reuse, repair, refurbishment and recycling, from project definition to building maintenance and use.

The research addresses information asymmetry, meaning unequal access to information among participants, and explores ways to strengthen trust and data verifiability. Analytical findings will inform the development of a conceptual model and digital framework, followed by a material tracking prototype and validation on real projects. The expected contribution includes more efficient resource use, reduced waste and CO₂ emissions, and support for long-term building maintenance.
