In addition to holding courses, the Chair for basic hydro engineering deals also with investigation and description of fluids flow, in particular of water and air to help solving research and professional problems in civil engineering. The transport of underground water, watercourse or sea carried substances has been recently more focused on. In the research of fluid flow mathematical 2D and 3D models and physical models have been applied at the Hydro engineering laboratory, the unique of this kind in Croatia. In several cases the models are calibrated on the basis of field measurement results. They are mostly used for hydro engineering calculations of  small and large hydro engineering facilities, for the calculation of released effluent transport, the research of optimal overflow shape and other objects in the fluid stream, wave and structures’ interaction, wind impact on structures and wind impact on traffic safety, as well as for a number of other problems. The equipment includes two swimming pools, two glass grooves, wave generator, wind tunnel and accompanying measuring equipment.
