Mobility

Horizontal mobility traditionally refers to the ability of students to enroll in courses at other study programs within the same university while remaining enrolled at their home university. International mobility, on the other hand, involves enrolling in courses at other, often foreign, universities, most often through programs such as Erasmus.

Horizontal mobility

Horizontal mobility implies the possibility for students to enroll in individual courses of other studies (study programs) within the University, during their study at the main faculty, which are not offered at the main faculty, with the recognition of passed exams and achieved points according to ECTS. This form of mobility allows students to enrich their education and adapt it to their own interests and professional goals. The number of students who can enroll in a particular course is limited by the capacity of the Faculty, which is decided by the Dean upon the proposal of the teacher in charge of the course.

International mobility

The primary support for students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering related to outgoing mobility, i.e. the possibility of completing part of their studies abroad, is provided by the Central Office for International Cooperation of the University of Zagreb, the Office for International Relations and Cooperation of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the student service of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Erasmus coordinator at the level of the University of Zagreb and the ECTS coordinator at the level of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The outgoing mobility of students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering is primarily realized within the framework of calls published by the University of Zagreb, within the European programme Erasmus+ (Union programme for education, training, youth and sport) in two financial perspectives (2014-2020 and 2021-2027) on the basis of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 and 2021-2027 awarded to the University of Zagreb by European Commission and on the basis of bilateral and/or multilateral inter-institutional agreements concluded by the Faculty of Civil Engineering with other higher education institutions.

All calls for outgoing mobility are published on the University of Zagreb website, while a link to the University's selection procedure is published on the Faculty’s website.

The Faculty supports outgoing students in the application and implementation of the mobility programme through the following procedure:

  • · after the announcement of the call for applications, the ECTS coordinator of the Faculty of Civil Engineering contacts the students by e-mail and organizes workshops and consultations for the students on the rights and obligations before, during and after the mobility, including the recognition of ECTS credits (according to the Learning Agreement) acquired at a foreign higher education institution
  •
  • · a student from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, in agreement with the ECTS coordinator, selects appropriate courses to enrol in and take at a foreign higher education institution
  •
  • · The Faculty ensures that the ECTS credits acquired at a foreign higher education institution are recognized.

The study programmes of the Faculty of Civil Engineering are not conducted in a foreign language, but for foreign or incoming students, the Faculty organises individual courses in English if required. Foreign or incoming students have access to information in English about all courses in the study programmes of the Faculty of Civil Engineering that they can take as part of the mobility programme.

The Faculty promotes staff training by offering mobility programmes for teaching and non-teaching staff. Faculty mobility is an important aspect of the internationalisation strategy of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Civil Engineering. It enables teaching staff to collaborate with foreign colleagues, offer lectures and improve teaching methods. It is based on bilateral agreements, and the Office for International Cooperation helps to organise and identify partner institutions.
