UNIVERSITY OF ZAGREB FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

announces

C A L L  F O R  A P P L I C A N T S

for admission to the doctoral program in CIVIL ENGINEERING

for the academic year 2025/2026.

 

  1. The faculty admits students to the doctoral program for the academic degree of Doctor of Science in the field of technical sciences. The program covers multiple research areas within the fields of Civil Engineering and Basic Technical Sciences.
  2. The program lasts for three years, and the tuition fee is 11,000.00 EUR.
  3. Applicants eligible for admission to the program are those who have:
    • - completed a university graduate, university integrated undergraduate and graduate, university specialist or university undergraduate study program in civil engineering (according to previous regulations), and have obtained at least 300 ECTS credits, with a minimum combined grade point average of 3.5 (from undergraduate and graduate studies)
    • - completed a university graduate, university integrated undergraduate and graduate, university specialist or university undergraduate study program in the field of technical sciences and earned at least 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits come from courses in the field of civil engineering, with a minimum combined grade point average of 3.5 (from undergraduate and graduate studies)
    • - completed a master's degree in science according to previous regulations, and for whom the Scientific Commitee may recognize completed obligations that correspond to the requirements of the study program they are enrolling in.
  4. Exceptionally, students who do not meet the required grade point average may be admitted to the program if they have recommendations from three faculty members of the program and are the author or co-author of at least one published peer-reviewed scientific paper.
  5. Applicants who have not earned 60 ECTS credits in the field of civil engineering, as well as those who have earned fewer than 30 ECTS credits in the research area they wish to enroll in, will be assigned differential courses.
  6. Applicants must have an adequate level of the English language (B2 level) or have passed an English language exam during their previous studies.
  7. The number of available places is 30. After the application process, a classification procedure is conducted to determine whether the candidates meet the required conditions. The classification procedure evaluates the applicant's academic performance in previous studies, fulfillment of the required number of ECTS credits, previously published scientific papers, and compliance with other admission requirements for the program. An interview with the applicant is also an integral part of the classification procedure.
  8. Applications must be submitted by email to pisarnica@grad.unizg.hr from May 1 to August 14, 2025. A detailed description of the program and application forms can be found on the Faculty’s website. The application must include the following:
  • Application form
  • - Short curriculum vitae with a list of published scientific and professional papers
  • - Proof of citizenship or electronic record from the e-Citizen system, and for foreign nationals, proof of citizenship
  • - Birth certificate or electronic record from the e-Citizen system
  • - Bachelor's degree diploma (programs before the Bologna system)
  • - Bachelor's and master's degree diplomas
  • - Diploma of completed postgraduate study if the candidate has completed one
  • Recognition decision of a foreign higher education qualification (for candidates who completed their previous studies abroad)
  • - Certificate of passed exams (for candidates who have not completed their previous studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb)
  • - Curriculum of the previously completed study program.

Exceptionally, master's degree students submit the application and other aforementioned documents, except for the diploma, which they are required to submit later.

 

TUITION FEE

The tuition fee for the doctoral study is 11,000.00 EUR.

Notably, assistants and staff members employed at the Faculty are exempt from paying tuition fees, while University employees are required to contribute by covering half of the tuition fees, as outlined in the University’s decision.
