ERASMUS program in the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-2027
The Erasmus program has been the European Union's leading program for education, training, youth, and sports for over 30 years. In the new seven-year period from 2021 to 2027, it supports priorities and activities within the European education area, the Action Plan for Digital Education, and the Skills for Europe Program. It contributes to the realization of the European Pillar of Social Rights, implements the EU Youth Strategy for the period 2019-2027, and develops the European dimension in sports.
The general aim of the Erasmus program is to support the educational, professional, and personal development of individuals in the fields of education, training, youth, and sports, both within Europe and beyond.
The specific objectives of the program are as follows:
- Promoting individual mobility for learning purposes and fostering collaboration, inclusivity, excellence, creativity, and innovation at the organizational and policy levels in the field of education and training.
- Encouraging mobility for informal learning, promoting active youth participation, and fostering collaboration, inclusivity, creativity, and innovation at the organizational and policy levels in the field of youth.
- Supporting the mobility of sports coaches and staff for learning purposes and promoting collaboration, inclusivity, creativity, and innovation at the level of sports organizations and policies.
The objectives of the Program are achieved within the framework of the following three key actions:
- Mobility for learning purposes ("Key Action 1")
- Cooperation among organizations and institutions ("Key Action 2")
- Support for policy development and cooperation ("Key Action 3")
In the field of education and training, the Program supports the following activities under Key Action 1 (mobility for learning purposes):
- Mobility of students and staff in higher education;
- Mobility of learners and staff in vocational education and training;
- Mobility of pupils and school staff;
- Mobility of staff in adult education;
- Language learning opportunities, including those supporting mobility activities.
In the field of education and training, the Program supports the following activities under Key Action 2 (cooperation among organizations and institutions):
- Partnerships for cooperation and exchange of practices, including small partnerships to promote a broader and more inclusive approach to the Program;
- Partnerships for excellence, especially initiatives such as "European Universities," centers of vocational excellence, and joint master's programs;
- Partnerships for innovation to strengthen European innovation capability;
- Online platforms and tools for virtual collaboration, including support services for the eTwinning network and for the electronic platform for adult education in Europe.
In the field of education and training, the Program supports the following activities under Key Action 3 (support for policy development and cooperation):
- Preparation and implementation of general and sectoral programs for Union policies in the field of education and training, including through the Eurydice network or activities of other relevant organizations;
- Support for Union tools and measures that promote quality, transparency, and recognition of competences, skills, and qualifications;
- Political dialogue and cooperation with key stakeholders, including networks across the Union, European non-governmental organizations, and international organizations in the field of education and training;
- Measures contributing to the qualitative and inclusive implementation of the Program;
- Cooperation with other Union instruments and support for other Union policies;
- Dissemination of information and awareness-raising activities about the results and priorities of European policy and the Program.
